Raffle Bus Update - Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Just bringing everyone up to date on our progress.

Russell, Mike, and Wayne got the rear engine bay support piece in place. Then Mike and Wayne spent the next hour and a half getting the rear bumper bolted in place at least two or three times while making sure it was shimmed properly and level and looked just right.  Tough job done extremely well. Looks perfect. Thanks guys.

Wayne went around the bus touching up all the little places that needed it. Again. We’re pretty hard on some of the areas that he had to correct. But it looks really good now. Probably have to do this one final time when we’re finished working around all the small, vulnerable areas.

The brakes are still giving us fits! Seems like I’ve taken up residence under the master cylinder trying to figure out what some of the strange noises are coming from that area. Mike noticed that the boot at the booster input shaft had a small tear and appeared wet. Surmised that the booster had some brake fluid in it and needed to be replaced. He and Sue DeMar somehow are getting one donated by JBugs! Thank you Sue! But the bus actually stops ok. Pulls to the right significantly and I’m afraid I’ll have to rebuild both front calipers sometime next week to make sure the pistons are completely freed up and retracting all the way. It just never ends.

Also decided that the steering box needed gear oil so Russell is picking some up and hopefully can get enough fluid in there so Mike can adjust the play.

We posted a video of the bus actually being driven up and down the road by Russell’s house. This is a really significant milestone. Mike feels the transmission is fully functional and shifts fine. And that’s just great news. No rebuild necessary!

So the bus is finally ready for the front windshield to go in. I finally got the dash in and bolted in place with everything working. Except the radio that Joe said he would install as soon as he can. Got the wiring ready for him.

We’re still waiting on the rest of the upholstery and front seats to show up but we’ve been assured that it will be finished soon.

We won’t be working on the bus this weekend.  We’re all going camping at Young. So please come by next week if you can and just take a look at how nice the bus looks. It’s your bus to admire and we’d love to see you and visit with everyone.
