Raffle Bus Progress - Saturday, May 3, 2025

Published on 4 May 2025 at 21:32

There was a lot happening on different days this week and I know I have some items that were done earlier in the week called out here. But you get the idea….

Brian, Greg B., Ed, and Mike came by Russell’s today to get a few things done and off of our to do list.

Brian and Greg worked on the rear windshield defogger ground wire and got it hooked up. Then they moved to the front of the bus and worked on installing the driver and passenger seat pedestal black rubber covers.  Partially glued and partially held in place with a compression channel. They did a good job, it looks great and we’re ready for the seats to go in. The seats should be covered and finished this week.

Ed fixed the rear windshield curtain. Used a wire mount instead of a metal channel and now the rear hatch closes properly.

A few days ago Mike and I put about four gallons of fuel in the new tank and there were absolutely no leaks! Mike and David P. had done an excellent job of installing the tank and all the fittings and hoses at an earlier work party. They did a terrific job. With fuel in the tank and Russell standing by with the fire extinguisher, Mike coaxed the engine to life with very little drama. It runs super well and is incredibly smooth. A video of the engine running was posted.

Thanks to James Burnite in Yuma for doing the rebuild on this engine for the club. He donated all of his skill and effort to the club and we all owe him a huge Thank You!

Mike adjusted the clutch and brake pedal throw. We should be able to go and stop just fine when all the new parts show up!

Joe is finding a radio and speakers for the bus. I ran some wires to power it so it should be easy to install. I also ran wires to the rear defogger switch. And had to take apart the 12V “power port” above the ash tray and get it wired and working properly. Still a little to do there.

Russell and I got some of the soft brake lines in but the last one was too short so a new one is on the way. The new front brake pads were going in but that has to wait for the new anti rattle clips to get here. So we’ll just pull the rotors and repack the bearings while we’re waiting. And the brake fill reservoir and the lower reservoir and the plastic hose connecting them were mangled by someone in the past and the connections leak. The new parts are mostly here so they will all be renewed this week. I’ve started buttoning up the dash and should have it all in and done this week. Finally…. Hopefully….. Maybe.

Then we can schedule the windshield to go in next Saturday. So stay tuned! A test drive is coming up pretty quickly.
