2026 Jamboree Splitty

Sunday morning Russell and I spent an hour or so looking over the rust converter we applied Friday to see how effective it is and what is needed to get the surface ready for paint. The rust converter worked well but left behind a surface that is too rough for paint and needs additional sanding along with some spots that had been welded on before we got it and now need to be smoothed out. I’m guessing I could do about four-six hours of effort on the surface above the engine compartment and three people could work on the main floor about four hours. There is just a lot of sanding with 80, 100, 150 and 220 grits needed to make this thing look right under a coat of primer.

I’m making some wooden sanding blocks to use instead of the softer foam ones. They are too soft for the rough surfaces. Trying to get the correct profile on the blocks to match the floor, but we’ll see.
So I’ll be over at Russell’s today and most days this week so if anyone has a few hours and can help out it would be appreciated. We’re hoping to have a work party this Saturday that really just involves cleaning and sanding wherever it’s needed anywhere on the interior and especially in the engine bay. Not quite ready for the exterior yet. Want to focus on the inside for now.

Thanks to everyone for your support in bringing Andy’s vision for this Bus into reality. I feel good about it every time I pick up a tool and make the Bus just a little nicer…. And I think it’s a shared feeling among all of the club members.
