2026 Jamboree Splitty
On Saturday Bill Ross, David Cissna and I spent a looong day working on the bus. Bill continued with welding in the patch repairs and David working on the front door windows.
Bill started with a rusted out spot in the wheel well below and behind the passenger pedestal. A hard piece to cut out and weld properly because of the way the metal panels all come together there. But Bill got it done and looking good. Then he moved on to a Really Tough Spot, the patch panel under the battery. That spot is always corroded and badly rusted on everyone’s buses. And worse, it’s in a really tough to access spot. The trick is to cut away the bad metal while leaving enough of an edge for the new metal to attach to. And the cut has to follow the curve at the rear of the bus. Bill slowly and carefully cut out the rusted parts just right and then took the battery tray patch panel and modified it to fit just so. It just takes forever to do it right and congratulations to Bill for doing an outstanding job parsing everything out. It’s ready to be welded in and sealed up next week. Great Job!
Meanwhile David Cissna worked on the front door windows. They were a rusty, dirty, grimy mess. Both sides had rock hard seal material that had to be chipped away one tiny piece at a time out of a channel with a 1/8” access slot. Took hours. Very time consuming and frustrating work. And they had to be taken apart while saving as many pieces as we were able to. One window had all the glass parts while the other one had to get the glass from a third donor window that was too far gone to save the rusted frame itself. But his persistence paid off and they’re ready for phase two tomorrow.
Good job guys. The club owes you big time for your hard work and skill.
